All the Stars

Jessica gives us ALL the stars!

We <3 our Mudpies family. We're hoping to be voted Best of York for photographers in the contests that are running, but we think our clients are the best, too.

  • Susquehanna Style Best of York voting until February 28: https://susquehannastyle.com/bestof/2021-york-voting

The Best

“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.”

– Albert Einstein

We believe that we can find our success by providing value. And it’s that time of the year when we ask you to love us back a little…

Susquehanna Style’s Best of York annual contest is open for voting through the end of February (https://susquehannastyle.com/bestof/2021-york-voting)! And nominations for the Best of York County will be open from February 15 - 28 (https://ydr.secondstreetapp.com/2021-Best-of-the-Best-York-County). It only takes a minute to pop over to both sites and let them know that you believe in us and our work. Won’t you be our Valentine?

Thanks, Mudpies and Loft family! <3

A Regular Girl's Guide to Boudoir Sessions ("But, what about my wobbly bits?")

An important part of the work our team does in preparation for boudoir sessions is to have a real heart-to-heart with the ladies who have signed up for them. Because these questions tend to be universal, we thought it would be helpful to share. If you're considering investing in yourself this way, read on. If you're considering gifting a session to a loved one, read on. If you're just curious about boudoir sessions, read on!

QUESTION: Will I be naked?
ANSWER: Not fully. The point of a boudoir session is NOT to reveal everything, but to tastefully frame your assets... with *just enough* exposure.

QUESTION: How do I decide what to wear?
ANSWER: What do you dance around the house in when you're totally alone? What do you get excited about pulling out of the drawer? What are you wearing when you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and say "well, helloooooo there..." We can give you a few additional pointers if they help:

  • Bring along pieces that you already know fit you well.

  • Shoot for a little loose over a little tight.

  • You know your coloration. Don't be afraid to flatter yourself with the right shades and colors.

QUESTION: But, what about my wobbly bits?
ANSWER: We have your back. Our team (of women, different shapes and sizes) has logged years of education and experience in boudoir photography, and we're excellent at helping you emphasize your favorite features while downplaying your least favorite features. We talk with our clients about their vision before every session we do, and boudoir photography is no exception.

QUESTION: Will you just edit out all the bad / weird / awkward details in post-production?
ANSWER: We're really good at getting it right for the camera, so post-production doesn't have to make the shots look unrealistic. We'll give you feedback and help you find optimal poses that you're comfortable with in front of the camera. We’ll also keep an eye on random details so that you can let go of any stress related to looking put together.

QUESTION: I know you do boudoir parties. Do I have to do this with other women I know?
ANSWER: We have several studio locations, and we are prepared to offer as much privacy as you need to be comfortable doing your session. Want to go solo and focus on the art we produce? We can do it. Want to glam it up with makeup and hair services, your besties, and champagne? We can do that, too. Just talk to us about what you want. No matter what, you’re going to be a bombshell!

QUESTION: But what kind of women even DO boudoir sessions?
ANSWER: All kinds of women. We're artists. We love lifting up the beauty and confidence and strength of our clients. For us, boudoir sessions are every bit as much about empowering the women in our community to find their own charms as it is about the final set of photographs.

QUESTION: Will my gallery of shots be used publicly?
ANSWER: Only if you're comfortable with it! We not only protect your privacy while you're in the studio... We protect your privacy in your galleries forever.

QUESTION: I'd like to do a session with you and then gift the photos to my person. When should I plan to do that?
ANSWER: If you're planning for a Valentine's Day gift (you have GREAT taste!), schedule your session for January (or before). That gives everyone plenty of time to do everything well on their end.

QUESTION: I'd like to gift my person a session! How do I do that?
ANSWER: You can either book a session with us, sorting out the details later, or you can purchase gift cards to be used when the session is booked later.

At first we didn’t think York was a market for this service, but boy were we wrong! York NEEDS more women empowering women. And we’re not only up to the challenge, we’re perfect for the job. We can’t wait until you see yourself through our lenses!

Something about Seasons

Pennsylvania seasons sure didn't disappoint this year!

New love stories ushered in 2020 with boudoir sessions so classy, but so fierce -- even we blushed.

The beautiful blossoms of early spring were bittersweet. Like so many others, our business came to a sudden halt as everyone tried to figure out how to stay safe during a pandemic. Trust us, we were feeling ALL the feels right along with the rest of the world. We still got to witness the beauty of the season, though. Some things are universal and for always.

Our hearts leapt with joy when we got our green light to get back into action. And who knew what a fabulous summer we'd be blessed with! Bare feet, watermelons, giggles, splashes, and all the ice cream we could eat framed some of our favorite moments with our summertime clients. ❤️

This year, Eastern shore boasted cleaner water and beaches than ever. We spent time capturing God beauty in those bursting sunrises and tranquil sunsets that provided backdrops of stunning art for families to cherish.

Fall here has brought a bounty of color, explosive fun photo shoots, and cozy campfires that are warming our souls. It's impossible not to jump into the leaf pile. All. The. Way.

We are really looking forward to witnessing families taking in all the sights and sounds of the holiday season and bonding over baking cookies. The magic of the holidays is here! Add a little Mudpies N' Butterflies magic to the mix, and it's a recipe for fun, art, and moments captured to cherish forever.

PS — We’d be remiss not to thank all of you who purchased gift cards for yourselves and for others when business slowed down in the spring. Thank you, our Mudpies N’ Butterflies family!

Dear Sweet Mamas with miracles on board,

We know this is always such a fleeting journey filled with so many unknowns, and now even more so.

As we all navigate through this trial we pray you will find peace in knowing your baby is safe and warm.

We pray you will find comfort in those around you.

We pray you discover the strength that we know roars within you.

The strength to meander this uncharted territory. The strength to go to those visits without your partner....as you are not alone, we are all pulling for you and your baby is right there with you feeling every movement and hearing your comforting voice.

Dear Mama, we will be here on the other side to capture the endless, fleeting moments to be forever remembered.

Find comfort in knowing you are created for such a time as this and we are all going to be ok.

Xoxo,
Mudpies N’ Butterflies

Dear high school and college seniors,

Millersville double branded.jpg

Dear high school and college seniors,

We see you.

Every year, we get to spend different seasons with you, capturing the essence of who you are to film forever. You have been a tremendous and favorite part of the work we do.

You share really personal insight into your personalities. You show us your passions.

Some of you have been photographed by us since your mamas were tenderly carrying you as bumps.

Some of you have styled sessions together and shared that freeze-frame.

We've seen you laugh. We've seen the serious you. We've glimpsed the hope and potential for a bright new beginning once you walk down the aisle to leave behind high school or college forever.

And so, as these times unfold and we all do what we must to ensure that everyone stay as healthy as possible, we are sad with you that you won't have some of the same "lasts" that you've always looked forward to.

You are our heroes, you know. And we'll always talk later on about how so many of your generation - YOU - so selflessly stayed at home, forgoing the traditional rites of passage to keep all of us safer. We are seeing right now, not only the beautiful you in this moment, but also the adults who you are becoming.

Dear seniors, we celebrate you. We are already looking forward again to finding your spirit with our lenses. And dear seniors, we thank you.

Much love,
Mudpies N' Butterflies

Important Message for Our Clients about Social Distancing

Mudpies N' Butterflies and The Loft York have been working for a while to move processes online to deliver you the best all-around experiences, before, during, and post-session. Your vision... Easy. Stress-free. Beautiful.

This means that, in these times of important caution, we can continue to deliver most of our services and still maintain best practices around social distancing so that we all stay safe and healthy.

We have always practiced aseptic technique in our (three) studio environments. Our team includes several highly-trained medical professionals, who ensure that we do our part to provide safe spaces for everyone from zero days old to, well, as old as they come. 😉

Because of hospital policies right now limiting visits, we're pausing our in-hospital sessions. But, especially if you have ideas for sessions in alternate or outdoor settings, please don't hesitate to reach out to us to share your vision with us.

Spring is about to break upon us wonderfully, and helping you create and capture those special moments is a passion that fuels our work... Healthfully, artfully, beautifully you.

Stay safe and healthy, everyone. Much love, Mudpies N' Butterflies and The Loft York 😘

what sets us apart

what sets us apart

In an industry booming with the sale of "prosumer" grade cameras, it's easy to be a self proclaim. You are indeed a photographer and self taught is fine; plenty of amazing photographers are. We would like to discuss a few things on this topic.  Professional grade equiptment is very different. It is much, much more costly to purchase and maintain. Not all photographers are going to have the glass series to cut through heavy fog, bright light rays, or waterproof stuff to shoot in the craziest weather conditions, if need be. Professionals have that all covered! They also know how to use it and when. It's what makes professionals just that- taking time to perfect the craft through multiple experiences, learning opportunities, and investing hours of learning the latest techniques and keeping up with cutting edge technology. For important milestones and memories that you want to last a lifetime, please consider investing in hiring a professional.

Now, if Aunt Susie down the street or mom's BFF momtog is teaching herself and building a portfolio, help them out, by all means! Reserve the special milestones, though, to be captured by professionals ESPECIALLY when it comes to posing your tiny human. Newborn photography should never be a portfolio building or a practice opportunity. I'll spare you the 3,000 reason why and cut to the chase.

1. SAFETY FIRST

You need people handling your baby in the specially molded poses who are trained to do so. Tiny vessels can be pinched off by the simple act of putting baby in a container/basket etc and causing irreversible nerve damage that you may not even discover, or worse. This is not a scare tactic for you to come to us for your newborn session-this is serious and meant to be informative. We have a passion for photography, but we have more of a passion to love and serve others. We love your babies and do not ever want to see babies injured. Many of the images you see are carefully edited for hours and the baby is not actually posed in a way that is the final result...these images are composite images put together by a professional designer. No, our babies are never just hanging in whimsical dreamcatchers..well they are except there are always multiple hands on the baby!!!

At Mudpies Studio, you can breathe a sigh of relief that are not only licensed and insured to handle the tiniest infants we have medical background with a specialty in neonatal! We have all state child clearances and we are current and up to date on all vaccines- many people do not think of this! I can't imagine taking my newest precious cargo to someone and not knowing this. Newborn sessions are UP CLOSE and personal with the entire family and your little ones immune system needs to still grow! That aside, we have over 16 years experience and a team dedicted to our work but mostly, YOUR safety.

2. Your Investment- Our Promise

We are not a high volume studio. We are able to turn around images in just days- each one beautifully edited to perfection. Little Sam has scraped up knees? (although sometimes cute to capture that boy phase), we have you covered! We can edit that out! That stain on your shirt from the babies hands that just happened prior to arrival? We got you. You do not pay extra for editing, nor do you search through tons of images and select which ones and what we will edit. Professional service is all encompassing. W strive for all shoots to be stress free. Often there are two or more photographers working with your family at a session. We know what it takes to get an entire family ready for pictures. WE take all of the stress away from beginning to the delivery of your final images by helping to plan and style your session, to directing with our professional eye for location, lighting, posing and angles so that you get the most from every session. You will have a convenient online gallery with a large amount of images to share with friends and family that they will fall in love with. We promise!

GET IN THE PICTURES

Moms, I'm here to tell you from experience.... life is short, time flies. I know you will come up with 27 reasons why you don't want to be in front of the lens or why the timing is'nt right to get those pictures taken. I'm here to tell you NOBODY is ever going to look back and regret getting TOO many pictures and moments captured!!

Your children will not remember how flabby skin on your tummy squished out over your jeans, or how you spent days trying to find a flowy top to hide it. They wont even think about why you wore those leggings for basically 7 months straight. They want the images that spark the memories of moments,  to flood back to the warmth of your embrace, how your skin felt as you held them, how you sounded as you read those bedtime stories or how silly you made the car rides with those songs.  You won't remember the sleepless nights, the constant spills or tantrums. You will want the images that spark the memories of those kicks you felt in your tummy while anxiously awaiting your bundle, that newborn flaky skin and fresh baby smell, the big gummy smile all the way up to them walking across the stage at graduation or that moment she walks down the aisle and your heart is racing.  We want to capture images for you that take you Right. Back There.

Consider booking a mom and me session WE DO THESE YEAR ROUND..any ages, include grandmas too!!
